Staples Return Policy – Your One-stop Destination For All Return Related Queries

Not happy with your office gear from Staples and want to return it? Follow our Staples return policy guide and find out whether your purchase is eligible for a return. We will also explain how and when you’ll get your refund.

Staples sells many school and office supplies like furnishings, electronic items, beauty products, and various digital software products. All of these are subject to different return periods and conditions. Basically, it is only one of few stationery stores with a favourable return policy. Let’s start with their standard return policy for different categories of items.

What is Staples Return Policy?

Staples return policy mentions different return periods for different categories of items. One of the most amazing things about Staples is that you have the facility to return office supplies at any time. Furniture, tech, and other small appliances follow a 14-day return window. All items have to be returned in their original condition & packaging along with parts and manuals. You’ll also need a receipt or packing slip to get an exchange or full refund of your money.

The different time limitations for furniture, tech., and Applecare products are covered further in the exceptions section.

Are Online Returns Free At Staples?

Staples only covers free online returns if you receive damaged or defective items. You can simply initiate a free online return by selecting “damaged or defective” option from my orders page.

Can I Return Software Items?

You may only return unopened software within 30 days of purchase. Staples return policy restricts returns on opened, downloadable, or digital software.

How Can I Return Staples Supplies?

You have two methods of returning your product, online or directly to the store which is a very easy process. You can return in-store purchases in any Staples store. Online purchases can only be returned by putting up a return request on Staples.com. let’s get to the detail of both.

In-store Returns

Visiting your nearby Staples store is a very simple and convenient way of returning any item. Just take your product back to the store along with the receipt. Tell the store executive about your return and he/she will start processing your return if the product is eligible. Remember that, Staples return policy requires you to return furniture and Technology items within 14 days and Applecare items within 30 days from the purchase date. Office supplies can be returned at any time.

Staples Return Policy For Online Purchases

For all online purchases, you may easily initiate your return on the Order finder page of Staples.com.

  • Find your order by providing your order number and zip code. Select the appropriate reason for return and proceed to receive a shipping label.
  • Pack the item properly, stick the shipping labels provided and mail it to the store’s address. A refund will be provided once the store receives your product. The refund will depend on your purchase and how you have followed the Staples return policy. For cash purchases, you can opt for a cash refund at the store.

Staples Return Policy Without Receipt

If it was an online order from Staples.com, then you can easily find your purchase receipt in my order section. If you want to return a store purchase from their store but no longer have the receipt then present the credit/debit card that you used to purchase the item. This will help them find your receipt in their records. However, if they fail to find a receipt you’ll be eligible for an in-store credit instead of a refund.

Staples Holiday Return Policy

Holiday Returns

Staples holiday return policy provides extended returns period of 14 days on electronics and furniture items. You can return any electronic and furniture items bought between November 8 and December 24 until January 24 or as a regular Staples return policy, whichever is longer.

Staples Return Policy on Furniture

Chair – Staples return policy chairs follow their 14 days return policy for furniture items. These include desks, tables, file cabinets, bookshelves, lighting and decor items,  and so on. Just bring your purchase receipt to the store and the executive will help you process your return.

Staples Return Policy on Technology Products

Printers – Staples return policy for printers follows their standard return policy on Tech. products. This means you can return your printer within 14 days from the date of receipt. This policy goes for both in-store and online purchases.

Laptops – Staples return policy on laptops will follow their 14 days return period for technology-related goods. Other items like computers, tablets, PC components, storage drives, and gaming accessories will also follow the same 14 days return period.

Others – You may return any unopened software within 30 days for a full refund. Though, you cannot return any digital software. All Applecare items at Staples have the flexibility of 30 days to return.

Non-returnable Items

Though the Staples return policy helps you return most of the purchases, there are a few following exclusions.

  • Staples does not accept returns on any open box software. These can only be returned unopened within 30 days.
  • You also cannot return any digital and downloadable software.
  • You won’t be able to return any opened or expired Ink and toner.

As per Staples return policy page, for any wrong purchases due to mistakes, you’ll have to first return the item online for a full refund and place a new order. But if your item was damaged/defective out of the box, then you can get a free replacement by selecting “Damaged or Defective” as the return reason.

Staples Refund Policy

For in-store purchases made via cash, debit card, or a check, you’ll receive an immediate cash refund. For online purchases, it might take 3-10 days for the amount to reflect in your account. This will depend on the transaction and the type of card you have used.

  1. If you have made a transaction using a major and prepaid debit or credit card, you will receive a refund in 3-5 days.
  2. If you want the amount in your staples credit card, it’ll also take 3-5 days.
  3. Gift card refunds may take 72 hours via email and 7- 10 days via postal mail.
  4. cheques refunds will take 7-10 days.
  5. If you have used coupons for purchasing the product, the coupon will be refunded within 72 hours via email/fax or 7-10 days via postal mail.

As per Staples return policy, for returns without promotional items (if included in the original transaction), they’ll deduct the price of the promotional item from your refund amount. This also includes gift cards that came free with your item.

Staples Response To Covid-19

All customer’s needs are important for Staples and hence they are providing full support to their customers and employees in these difficult times. The supplies for hand sanitizers, masks, gloves, and disinfectants in the store have been increased. Additionally, the following are the measures that Staples has taken following the Covid-19 pandemic.
